Spiderweb Frame: a Tutorial

Yesterday I showed you my Halloween decorations and today I'm going to show you how I created the Spider Web Frame.
When I pulled out my Halloween decorations from last year I decided I didn't like the frame I had my Along Came a Spider print in. So I found a plain one I had in my craft supplies at home and transformed it.
It's a pretty color but I needed a BLACK frame to match my Halloween decorations. So it got a fresh coat of paint with black craft paint. (The before is the back because I forgot to take a picture of the front pre-paint.)
Then I put the print inside the frame so I could continue the spider web from it onto my frame. I just used a pencil and a ruler to extend the web lines and free handed the curved lines.
The pencil web matches up really nicely. I glittered the frame in sections. Using regular Elmer's Glue I traced the pencil web, then over a sheet of scrap paper I dumped white glitter on to of the glue. I let it dry for a second then pressed it lightly into the glue to adhere better. After letting it dry for about 15-20 minutes (I glittered on commercial breaks) I tapped off the excess glitter onto the paper then used the paper as a funnel to pour the glitter back into the container. Repeat for all 4 corners of the frame and it was done!
This was a quick project,  it took about 30-45 minutes while I watched TV.
When I added the glue and the glitter it made my web fatter so I really should fix it so it looks a bit better because some of the lines that went off the frame looked good in pencil but don't look as good with the glitter.

This was a fun and easy project and I think it makes my mantle look so much more Halloweenie!
Next I'll show you how I made my wreath!

Halloween Decorating 2012

I loooooooove Halloween! It is one of my most favorite holidays and I love to decorate for it!
I have 2 shelves in my living room above our TV, the top one is used for books and right now is displaying a few chalkboards. And the bottom one I use as a mantle. It's been fun to switch things out on this shelf through out the year. Here it is all decked out for Halloween!
My husband and I are doing the Halloween countdown from Kiki & Company, you can see it there on the right. It is so much fun and each day we open a window and do a fun Halloween activity. We are loving it! The countdown can be downloaded for free from the link above. She has also created a kit you can purchase to go along with it, also at the link above. The kit includes lots of printables and this is where the EEK banner came from.
Here are a few more shots as the sun was going down:
It looks very pretty at night all light up, not that you could tell from the photo, but it is very pretty in real life!
I really love the two glitter pumpkins I found at Walmart for cheep. I made the chalkboard with Oct. 31 on it along with the other 3 on the shelf above. It's All About the Candy block came from a local decor shop. The tall BOO jar with the candle in it and the squaty one below that is empty I got our first Halloween we were married.
The black metal pumpkin was cut out of this shot but you can see it in the full view above. I found it last year at Tai Pan. The pretty green spider was made by my mom along with the purple one sitting on top of the Candy block on the other side but it's a little hard to see in the photos. And I made the spider web frame to hold Along Came A Spider from last year.
To the right of my TV is a small spot I like to decorate. Right now I've got my grapevine pumpkin all light up and inside the big frame, if you can't tell from the photo says Keep Calm and Scare On. I really do need to fill that little squaty jar, I was thinking green gum balls or something.
Day 8 of the countdown we had to find old Halloween pictures and display them. This is from 3 years ago, the first Halloween we were married. Danny was Rambo and I was some army girl. I surprised him and brought home a Nerf gun for his costume. He loved it!
Day 9 was to make a wall of bats. This is what I have so far, I really should cut out some more, but I kind of like it the way it is and it's still fun and festive.
On the opposite side of the room is this cute Trick or Treat banner which also came from Kiki & Company as well as the "Have Yourself a Spooky Little Halloween" print on the mantle. These are from her Halloween Pack she created last year. I did have a framed collage of my engagement photos I made there where the banner is but it fell down months ago and I have been too lazy to rehang it. I love the banner and it looks perfect here above the couch.
Beside the front door I have a spot to hold keys and this year I finally decided to decorate it for Halloween. Day 11 was to have a Halloween coloring contest, this is Danny's which I deemed the winner and put it in a frame to congratulate him. Day 10 was pick out your perfect pumpkin day so I've displayed them up here too. I totally can't wait to carve that little peanut shaped pumpkin!
And the last decoration I have to show you is my spooky BOO wreath I made last year. It is hanging on the door leading to the hall/bedroom. It's just too cute to put outside where no one will see it. It makes me smile every time I walk through there!
So far that's all my Halloween decorations! I love everything about Halloween and this year has been so much fun! I can't wait for tonight, it's a Blindfolded candy eating contest. Should be yummy!

What are you doing to celebrate Halloween? I would love to hear about your traditions.

Halloween fun!

So Halloween is one of my most favorite holidays. It's so much fun, all the dressing up and cute kids. The fun decorations and the corn mazes. Pumpkins and carving parties. I just love it!!! Fall is my favorite time of year and Halloween marks all of those fun festivities!
I know I moved in August but it's been a weird transition.... so this Halloween hasn't been as festive around our house as I would like. I've been trying to create a fun Halloween mantle so the house seems decorated and in the Halloween spirit but even that hasn't gone very well.... it looks horrible :o)
One thing I am in charge of is decorating the lobby in my office. And this year it's exceptionally cute! I'm glad I am able to have these fun decorations around me all day so I have a little fun to stare at for 8 hours of my day while I'm at work.
That being said, let me show you a few fun things I have done!
I found this great print here, Jessica has made this free printable!!! She so rocks!
So I found a frame, it had a baby blue mat, not working too well for the whole Halloween thing, so I flipped it over added some white paper and black ribbon and we have this:
See now, isn't that just so cute! I love the big fat black ribbon and not only is it cute, it's functional!
(It's covering up those annoying lines because I covered this large mat with 8 1/2 x 11 paper, now you don't see the seams!)
And here it is in it's new home at my work:
Doesn't it sit just perfectly in the little drink station?
I love it and it's so fun and festive! I'm so excited I found this frame, I will be able to swap this print out for others during the year!! Can't wait for the possibilities!
One of the other fun things I've done is this fun little sign from here.
Shelley created this for her awesome Halloween display and I loved it! I took the free printable and created this sign for my home:
And this one in the office!
This was a frame I already had and I swapped out our normal candy box for this great vase that I found, added the spider rings to the rim and as you can see in the background, I hung up a cheesy pumpkin garland. This is an office, there has to be some cheesy decorations when it comes to the holidays!
You can also see, those Christmas lights in the plant above the frame, yes, I put those in last Christmas and no, I have no intention on taking them down. EVER.
You see, I sit right there and look at what would be a boring blank wall, I like the lights, and they are mood lighting... therefore they are year round decoration! And I love it!
When you sit at a computer for 8 hours a day you need things around you that make you happy, this is one of mine!
So, there you have it, Halloween fun around the work place!
Thanks for stopping by, you have seen a glimpse into my office, it's a great place to work! And the decorations make it that much more enjoyable!!

Happy Halloween!

Hello everyone! I hope you had a wonderful weekend and a fabulous Halloween! I'm back and I wanted to share some of the fun I had this weekend. I carved a few pumpkins, it was so much fun! This is one of my favorite parts of Halloween!
This is the Mummy:
And this is the Monster:
I also filled my jars!
The BOO! is a little hard to see on this one, but it's there!
They look so great full of candy!!
For the party I had to make a desert. I found this great website called Picky Palate (http://picky-palate.com/) and there was a fun recipe I wanted to try for Cookie Pies (http://picky-palate.com/2009/07/13/hot-little-chocolate-chip-cookie-pies/).
Basically you make your favorite Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe:
Then cut out small circles from a pie crust:
I used a Pillsbury crust and cut out the circles with this perfectly sized lid!
Then scoop on the cookie dough:
Bake, and enjoy right out of the oven:
They turned out great! It was fun to try a new recipe. I would recommend if you have some time to browse this great site! There are tons of recipes and I'm sure there is something there you have not tried before. So go, be creative and try new things!

Witches Hats!

I am so excited to share with everyone what I have been working on all month! I wanted to do a fun project that I could give to all the nieces and nephews for Halloween. I just couldn't think of anything I wanted to do. I was reading along on Carrie's Blog one day and found this great post! She does a photo tutorial on how she created this adorable witches hat!
If you would like to know how click HERE!
Well I started working on this project at the beginning of the month. I spent one Saturday morning cutting everything out and scoring all my hats. I have 9 that I wanted to make so I had a lot to cut. Carrie used this great punch for the buckle and it looks so cute! Unfortunately I do not have that punch so I had to cut all of mine out by hand. This was probably what took the longest out of everything.
I started with a plain black hat. Then I stamped Candy Corn on the green paper and punched out stars from that. They turned out so cute! Next I added the belt and buckle. I punched a hole using my cropadile in the top to thread the ribbon through. Then it was time to fill them!
I filled them with Starbursts, Dum Dums, Chrunch Bars and Twix! MMMMMMM
After all the candy was in I got this great purple and green ribbon to close them with! The boys got the Green and the girls got Purple ribbon. Then I realized I needed a tag so I stamped my saying on white paper. Then stamped the spider web over the top as a background.
They turned out super cute! The boys were mounted on Green paper and then purple. The girls were mounted on Purple and then Green. They all turned out so cute!! The color in the picture is a little distorted, the ribbon really is purple, not blue :)
They look so much better in real life! After they were all completed it was time for shipping!! 4 of the kids do not live in our area so I got to send them in the mail!
I was told they would arrive today!! We will see! I got to give out 3 of them yesterday and everyone was so excited! I'm so happy with how they all turned out! I love Halloween and I hope everyone enjoys theirs!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Halloween Party Projects

Hello again!
It's my favorite time of the year, FALL! I love everything about this season. The smells are so wonderful and the colors are gorgeous! Best of all, Halloween! This is one of my favorite holidays. I love all the fun things about Halloween, the fun decorations all the cute kids in stinkin cute costumes! It's so much fun!
This year I helped my cousin make invites for a party we are planning to have. Just a simple invite that was easy to make a lot of. This is how it turned out!
As an added touch I punched 2 holes in the top and threaded it with an orange ribbon. These were very fun to make and it only took us about an hour to make all that we needed!
<//insert><//insert>
Also at the party we wanted to have a fun jar full of candy corn. We are going to have people guess how many pieces are in the jar to win a prize. I have a few mason jars I thought I could tie a ribbon around and that would be cute but when I stumbled across this jar I just had to get it!
<//insert><//insert>I love apothecary jars, they are so cute! I took my new jar and added a rub on to the lid (Ghouls just want to have fun) and tied a ribbon around the top. It's super cute! I can't wait to add the candy corn!

And when I saw this jar I needed it too! I added the BOO! rub on. This is where the slips of paper with the guess will go! Happy Halloween! Come back soon!
